HARVEY BLISS PASSES AWAY

Harvey S. Bliss, an old timer in the county and city, a brother of Dr. E.C. Bliss, also a graduate of the college in 1880, passed away this morning at the Dr. J.H. Friend home. Until he moved to Kensett a number of years ago, he was one of the best known citizens of this town, as the Bliss family were old time residents here. Mr. Bliss served for many years as postmaster at Kensett, Iowa, leaving the office on account of his health a short time ago, and was a man of high character and stainless reputation.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 o'clock from the Congregational church, conducted by Rev. Robert Inglis.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR HARVEY BLISS

Rev. Robert Inglis, in conducting funeral services for Harvey S. Bliss Sunday afternoon, referred to the long and helpful influence which the Bliss family has exerted upon the Congregational church of this city. Mr. Bliss's father united with the church here in 1857, being among the first one hundred members. He became a deacon in 1863 and for practically all the years since, a member of the Bliss family has been one of the deacons of the church. Harvey united with the church in 1871 and became a deacon in 1891, serving in that capacity until he left Grinnell to make his home in Kensett. He also served for a number of years as clerk of the church. His brother, Dr. E.C. Bliss, is now a member of the board of deacons.

"This church is hallowed," said Mr. Inglis, "by the consecrated service of such men as Mr. Bliss. The church is worth while to the extent that men and women have served their God and their fellow men within its walls."

Mr. Inglis also referred to the fact that Mr. Bliss had been a public servant, having served a number of years as postmaster at Kensett, and that to his public duties he had brought the qualities of conscientiousness and devoted service which were characteristic of his entire life.
