Funeral services were held this afternoon at 1 o'clock for Mrs. F.M. Cooper from the residence on Third avenue, where she passed away Sunday afternoon, aged 71 years. Rev. George Blagg, D.D., her former pastor in Grinnell, conducted the services. Music was furnished by Miss Clara Phillips, who sang "Jesus, Lover of My Soul" and "My Jesus, As Thou Wilt," assisted by Mrs. R. Dempster, accompaniest. Pall bearers were R.G. Coutts, T.S. Mason, E.L. Dieterich, J.S. Stoaks, Elmer Hayes and George Armentrout, all friends of many years. Burial was at Monroe.

Mrs. Cooper had made her home in Grinnell since 1905 when the family moved here to take advantage of the educational advantages. She was a gracious and lovely presence in the home and a woman who was loved and honored wherever she was known. She had been in failing health for the past two years but her last illness was of only a week's duration.

Ella Scarbrough was born De. 29, 1859, on a farm two miles south of Colfax, the daughter of Andrew Jackson Scarbrough and his wife, Emily. When she was three years old the family moved to another farm north of Monroe in what was known as the Bellevue neighborhoood, where she grew to womanhood. She attended the Monroe schools.

On Dec. 27, 1888 she was united in marriage to Dr. F.M. Cooper who had established a thriving pratice in Searsboro, where they made their home until they moved to Grinnell in 1905. Dr. Cooper, on account of failing health, did not establish his practice in Grinnell and passed away here Nov.10, 1921.

Two children were born to Dr. and Mrs. Cooper, Clara Bea, who passed away in 1900 and Nellie, now Mrs. Charles Manly, who survives her. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Marybea, John, Charles Jr. and Robert Cooper Manly, twin brothers, Ed Scarbrough of Yale, Iowa, and Orrin of Camas, Wash., another brother, Charles, of Ames, and a niece, who grew up with the family in Grinnell and is now Mrs. Charles Bechly of Camas, Wash. One brother, Ed, and a sister in law, Mrs. Charles Scarbrough of Ames, were present at the funeral today.
