NEWKIRK BARCLAY IS BURIED SUNDAY

Funeral services for Newkirk Shipman Barclay, father of Guy Barclay who died suddenly Friday morning, were held from the Presbyterian church at Brooklyn Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. E.W.F. Holler of Brooklyn. Burial was in the family lot at the Odd Fellows cemetery there. Pallbearers were: Gordon and Simpson Murrison, Douglas Judd, F.L. Neff, Herb Brannian and Charles Coon. Singers were William Calderwood, Jack Talbott, Mrs. Beryl Green and Mrs. May Armstrong.

The late Mr. Barclay was a pioneer resident of Poweshiek County, having spent most of his life at Brooklyn where he was a stock buyer. He had been living with his son, Glenn at Washington, and he had moved to Grinnell to spend the winter with Guy. The forepart of last week he was taken suddenly ill and his old friend, Dr. Busby prevailed upon him that he must go to the hospital.

The obituary follows:

Newkirk Shipman Barclay was born July 11th, 1845, in Newbrighton, Pa., the eldest son of John and Sarah Barclay and died in Grinnell, Iowa, October 24th, 1930. He came with his parents to Poweshiek county in 1858 and grew to manhood on a farm southeast of Brooklyn. October 30th, 1875 he was united in marriage in Grinnell, Iowa to Eva S. Alt of Johnson County. To this union six children were born, Daisy, who died in 1902, Sarah J. Brig and Carl of Chicago, Louise Lane of Oakland, Calif., Glenn N. of Washington, Iowa, and Guy F. of Grinnell. Aside from eight years spent in South Dakota in the early eighties, his home until the death of his wife, in June 1929 has been in Brooklyn, Iowa. Since then he has made his home with his sons in Washington and Grinnell. A younger brother died in young manhood and a sister, Nettie, of Huron, S.Dak., remains with his children and grandchildren to mourn his death. All attended his funeral Sunday except Louise Lane of Oakland, Calif.
