ALMA J. WEAVER, 89

Memorial services for Alma J. Weaver, 89, were held Saturday, October 25, at St. Francis Manor Social Center, Grinnell. She died October 22, 2003, at St. Francis Care Center, Grinnell.

The Rev. Arno Melz, Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, West Des Moines, officiated at the service. Lauren Gingerich, a great-granddaughter, sang "Ten Thousand Angels" and "Old Rugged Cross."

Interment will be at a later date in Kent Cemetery, rural Brooklyn.

The Neptune Society of Iowa, Ankeny, was in charge of cremation arrangements.

Alma Josephine Weaver was born Jan. 23, 1914, in Genoa Bluffs, the daughter of Charles and Mary Meyer Haman. She was the next-to-youngest of 10 children, and she attended Iowa County schools.

She married Howard W. Weaver on Dec. 7, 1936. The couple farmed in the Ladora area and then north of Brooklyn for many years until they retired and moved to Tama in 1976. They moved to Seeland Park, Grinnell, in 1997.

Her hobbies included collecting family history, crocheting, sewing, and making doll clothes and crafts for her grandchildren.

Alma is survived by two sons, Gerald, and wife, Deloris, of Johnston, and Laurel of Gilbert; four grandchildren; one sister, Rose Shull, of Ladora; and one brother, Carroll, of Marengo; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, in 2001; her parents; three sisters Martha Wyant, Clara Hawkins and Mabel Van Blaricom; and four brothers, George, John, Henry and Lawrence.
