LENA C. CLOSE

Mrs. Lena C. Close, 93, of Grinnell, a former resident of Brooklyn, died Sunday morning, July 30, in Friendship Manor.

Services for Mrs. Close will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2, in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home. Mr. Richard Reed of Cedar Rapids will officiate. The organist will be Mrs. Marilyn Kriegel and the soloist will be Mrs. Joan Gerard. Casket bearers will be Harold Hiner, Glen Stauffer, Maynard Saylor and Raymond DePauw. Interment will be in the Kent Cemetery.

Lena Catherine Close, daughter of William and Kate Campbell Shaffer, was born Aug. 23, 1901, on a farm north of Brooklyn. She received her education in a rural school. She was married to Burton Meeks and they had a daughter, Dorothy, who died in 1970.

On June 12, 1939, Lena was married to Raymond Lee Close in Marengo. Mr. Close died in 1964. Mrs. Close lived most of her life in and around Brooklyn except for a few years when she lived in Durate, Calif. In recent years she was a resident of Friendship Manor, Grinnell.

She was a member of the Church of Christ of Grinnell.

Survivors include a grandson, James H. Meeks of Solon; two great grandchildren, Jennifer and Justin Meeks; two nieces, Bonnie Creps of Malcom and Romona Carpenter of Marshalltown; and a nephew, Richard Diehl of Cedar Rapids.

Mrs. Close was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, and two sisters.
