Gerry Phelps Burkart, 83, of Marion, formerly of Grinnell, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, in the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a brain hemorrhage.

Gerry Phelps Burkart, 83, of Marion, formerly of Grinnell, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at Hazelwood Cemetery with the Rev. Nick Adam, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating.
She was born Aug. 1, 1925, in Grinnell, where she was raised and received her education. She was an Eastern Airlines employee in Chicago and New York from 1945 until 1965.
On Jan. 13, 1964, she was united in marriage with George Burkart in Bayside, N.Y. They moved to Marion in 1966 and she was employed at Rockwell Collins from 1973 until retiring in 1986.
There are no immediate survivors. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1989.
