MRS. J.E. DECKER

Jane Eliza Hannon, daughter of Robert and Katherine Hannon, was born in Bevertown, Bever County, Pennsylvania, January 27, 1850 and died in Newton, April 4, 1911, at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 7 days. When a girl her parents moved to Iowa and located at Brooklyn. Later they moved to Grinnell where her father had a buggy factory. February 22, 1875, she was married to Jackson Decker, in Malcom, Rev. Mitchnor officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Decker lived on farms near Malcom and Montezuma until the spring of 1906, when they moved to Grinnell. October 6, 1906, Mr. Decker passed away and two years ago in May, Mrs. Decker and her daughter, Miss Mae, came to Newton where they have since resided.

Seven children were born to this union, James, of Muscatine; Mrs. William Rivers, of Newton; Mrs. Nate Clark, of Ewart; Mrs Lee Carroll, of Telluride, Colorado; and Miss Mae survive her and all were present at the last except Mrs. Carroll, who could not arrive until Thursday. Florence died at the age of four years and Mary in infancy.

Three sisters also survive her, Mrs. Blanche Wilcox, of Malcom; Miss Kate Hannon and Mrs. Ida Beardsly, of North Yakima, Washington.

Mrs. Decker had been a member of the Baptist church since childhood. She was a true mother and an ideal woman in every sense of the word, loved by all who knew her. Her aim in life was to do something for someone else and a favorite motto was "Never speak ill of anyone."
