EVELYN BRIGGS RITES SATURDAY

Evelyn W. Briggs, 57, of Columbia, S.C., formerly of Gilman, died Monday, July 5, at Moncrief Army Hospital in Columbia.

Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman, with the Revs. Peter and Allyson Sawtell, co-pastors of the Newburg/Chester parish, United Church of Christ, officiating. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home beginning today.

The daughter of Glen F. and Bertha Cook May, she was born Dec. 24, 1924, at Gilman. She lived in Gilman for a number of years and had made her home in South Carolina for the past 20 years.

Survivors include her husband, Alden; a son, Jack G. Briggs of West Columbia, S.C.; one sister, Bonnie Mason of Marshalltown; and four brothers, Glen May of Newburg, Delbert May of Lovelock, Nev., Roy May of Gilman and Dean May of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Billie Lee and Nellie Sutten.
