RITES TODAY FOR NELLIE SUTTEN
Nellie M. Sutten, 52, the wife of Kenneth W. Sutten of Newburg, passed away Thanksgiving Day at Community hospital here. She died of a heart condition.
She was the daughter of Glen and Bertha Cook May and was born on a farm in Hickory Grove Twp., Jasper County, Dec. 3, 1914. She graduated from Newburg High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa. Later she taught school at Chester Center.
On Feb. 15, 1935, she was married to Kenneth W. Sutten at Lansing, Mo. To this union were born two children, Kenneth E. Sutten of Greene, Ia., and Mrs. Dean (Barbara) Douglas of Newburg. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Sutten continued to make Newburg their home, and they operated a service station there.
She was a member of the Newburg United Church of Christ (Congregational), the church ladies aid, and was a past president of the Iowa Travel Trailer Club.
Mrs. Sutten is survived by her husband Bill, her two children, and seven grandchildren. Also surviving is her father Glen May of Newburg; four brothers, Roy May of Idaho, Glen Lee May of Gilman, Delbert May of Lovelock, and Dean May of Montezuma; and two sisters, Mrs. Alden (Evelyn) Briggs of Columbia, S.C., and Mrs. Roger (Bonnie) Mason of Marshalltown. She was preceded in death by her mother and a sister, Mrs. Carol "Billie" Lee.
Services for Mrs. Sutten were held today (Monday) at 2 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard F. Hempenius officiated. Organist was Mrs. Donald J. Renaud. Pallbearers were Ervin Claus, Raymond McIlrath, Wendell Paul, Harry Rutherford, Derald Weaver, and Donald Weaver.
Flowerbearers were Mrs. Mary Bennington and Mrs. Wendell Paul. Burial was in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman. A family prayer service was led by Mrs. Helen Turner of the Mayflower Home at 7:30 Saturday evening.
