IDONA PICKENS FUNERAL SERVICES SLATED TUESDAY
Idona Pickens, resident of Grinnell for the past 22 years, died Sunday morning at a local hospital following a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. David Houghton of Des Moines officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Emil Gerard will sing and the organist will be Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.
Pallbearers will be Duane Sumpter, William Barnes, Neil Johnson, Leslie Johnson, Clyde Matherly, and Bernie Matherly. Interment will be at Hazelwood cemetery.
Daughter of James and Parle Shadden Vincent, she was born on Oct. 14th, 1884 at Mendota, Missosuri and was married to William E. Pickens at Mendota on Nov. 20th, 1901. They made their home in Missouri until 1936 when they moved to Grinnell.
Mrs. Pickens was a member of the Assembly of God church.
Her husband preceded her in death on March 23rd, 1954. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, a son and daughter.
Survivors include her children, May Cline and Wade and Hershel Pickens of Dayton, Oregon; Della McGee of Wenatchee, Wash.; Marvel May of Gilman; Louise Vinne of Fort Dodge, Ellera Billington of Gibbs, Mo.; William, Lee, and George Pickens of Grinnell; 40 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two brothers and two sisters.
