E. Lee Pickens, 79, Montezuma, Iowa, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 1996 at the Senior Home in Montezuma.
Graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 18, 1996 at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with the Rev. Keith Briggs, pastor of the First Friends Church of Grinnell, officiating.
Lee was born on March 28, 1917, at Red Oak, Iowa, to William and Idona Vincent Pickens. The family moved to Minona, Mo., where he was raised and educated. He was married to Madge Rice and to this marriage was born four children, Sandra, Karen, Patrick and Clifford. The family moved to Grinnell in 1932 and he worked for area farmers and for the Grinnell Shoe Company. Later, he worked for Midwwest Manufacturing Company at Kellogg. Following his retirement in the early 1970s he lived in Grinnell and in 1990 he moved to the Diamond Life Care Center at Montezuma.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Cecile Pickens and Dulia McGee; and five brothers: Wade, Herschel, William, Levell and George Pickens.
Lee is survived by two daughters: Sandra L. Adams, Alexandria, Va.; and Karen Puls, Grinnell; two sons: Patrick, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Clifford, Fort Walta, Fla.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Ellaree Billington of Kirksville, Mo.; Mae Cline, Rockford, Ill.; Louise Vinnes, Fort Dodge; and Marvel May, Grinnell.
