FRONA SMITH RITES TUESDAY
Mrs. Frona Elizabeth Smith, 78, the wife of Charles C. Smith 326 West St., died late Saturday evening (July 7) at Grinnell General Hospital.
The daughter of Joe and Litha Bell Alexander Marcum, she was born Feb. 27, 1895, at Mt. Pisgah, Ky. She was married to Charles C. Smith on April 20, 1913, at Mt. Pisgah, and the couple had seven children: Neva, who died in infancy; Mrs. Eula Grace McGee, who died in 1969; Mrs. Jim (Elna Marie) McCarter of Cedar Falls; Harold Smith of Denver, Colo.; Lyle Jackson Smith of Ft. Collins, Colo.; Mrs. Dan (Lourene Wayne) Farris of Littleton, Colo.; and Mrs. Raymond (Deloris Faye) Dale of Edwardsville, Kan.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith came to the Grinnell area in 1928 and farmed southwest of town for 10 years. They had lived at their present home the past 11 years.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband; her five children; 26 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; six brothers and sisters, Mrs. Nancy Jane Davenport of New Castle, Ind., Thomas Jefferson Marcum of Monticello, Ky., William Harrison Marcum of Monticello, Ky., Harvey Marcum of Newton, Henry Clay Marcum of Eaton, Ind., and Mrs. Susie May Huckaby of Albany, Ky. She was preceded in death by her two daughters, two grandchildren, and three brothers.
Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be Hazelwood Cemetery.
