MRS. RUTH MARCUM DIES IN IOWA CITY
Mrs. Bertha Ruth Marcum, 63, died late Monday afternoon at University Hospitals in Iowa City, where she had been hospitalized for over a week.
Mrs. Marcum was born near Ash Grove, Iowa, on Jan. 27, 1906, the daughter of John Aaron Jones and Rose Ina Massey Jones. On Jan. 18, 1929, she married Harvey Marcum in Lynnville. Soon after their marriage, the couple moved to Grinnell, where they remained.
Mrs. Marcum is survived by her husband, Harvey; her son, Jack D. Marcum of Grinnell; her daughter, Mrs. Bill (Darlene) Pickens, of Grinnell; and six grandchildren: Mrs. Dale (Loma) Pinkerton, Ronald, Dennis, and Steve Pickens, and Scott and Jay Marcum, all of Grinnell. Also surviving are five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Loula Bale of Newton and Mrs. Floyd (Lena) Beason of Grinnell; one brother, Howard Jones of Grinnell; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Rena Jones, a brother, Charley Jones, four half-brothers, and three half-sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Harvey Marcum were held at 10 a.m. this morning (Thursday) in the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Leslie O. Warner, minister of the First Friends Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Leonard Pearce and vocalist was Gordon VanDonselaar. Pallbearers were Jerry Carter, Larry Cooper, Myles Olson, Robert Revell, Jr., Eugene Staeker, and Dwain Sumpter. Burial was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Ash Grove.
