MRS. DARLAND RITES HELD SATURDAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby A. Darland were conducted by the Rev. John Friend at the Montezuma Christian Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 6. Soloist at the services was Mrs. Roger Blair accompanied by Miss Alice Underwood.
Casket bearers were Basil Hicks, Clyde Griffin, Pearlie Freeborn, Larry Moritz, Richard Hicks and Robert Broadston. Interment was at the Barnes City Cemetery.
Mrs. Darland, 76, passed away Thursday, December 4, at the Maplelawn Home in Marion. Mrs. Darland's health began to fail following the death of her husband in March.
The daughter of Matilda and Marcus Steward, she was born in Tama County on Jan. 18, 1893. She attended rural school and worked at the Moody Bible Institute in Chaicago. She returned to Newton to help care for her brother's children.
In 1928 she married Lacey Darland and to this union two sons were born. One son, Donovan, died in infancy. The Darlands lived in the Barnes City and Montezuma communities.
She was a member of the Christian Church and recently was associated with the Oakland Nazarene Church.
She is survived by a son, Estel; two step-daughters, Mrs. Irene Beatty and Mrs. Iva Van Deventer; three grandchildren, Tami, Timothy and Thomas; several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Addie Wikel.
A step-son, Dale Darland, also preceded her in death.
