Newspaper obituary dated Sept. 29, 1899

--Thomas Jefferson Lee was born in Virginia Sept. 24th, 1833, moved to Ohio when he was five years old and afterward moved to Indiana at the age of 15 and lived there till he was married to Mary Jane Lucas, Sept. 19th, 1854. In 1870 he moved with his family to Montezuma and to Grinnell in September 1878. He was the father of 13 children of whom eleven are living. He died at his home early Wednesday morning Sept. 26, 1899 of a complication of disease and old age. Mr. Lee for a number of years has been in poor health and weak in mind and for about ten days has been in bed. The end was not unlooked for. Early in life Mr. Lee united with the M.E. church and has attended that church with more or less regularity since. Services were held at the home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon conducted by the Rev. G.E. Morphy. He leaves a wife, eleven children and many friends to mourn their loss. There were present at the funeral from out of town, Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Buttrum and Mr. and Mrs. George Brook of Hamilton county, Mr. and Mrs. Silas Lee of Atchison, Kansas, and Mr. Daniel Strong of Malcom.
