MARY ELLEN PICKHARDT
Mrs. Mary Ellen Pickhardt, the wife of Louis H. Pickhardt of 1628 7th Avenue, passed away early Monday morning at St. Francis Hospital after an illness suffered the last four days. She had not been in the best of health the last few years.
Mrs. Pickhardt was the daughter of John and Celia O'Conner Cogley and was born near West Des Moines, Iowa. When she was 11 years old the family moved to Tama County, and she was educated in the Tama County rural schools. On February 24, 1914, she was united in marriage to Louis Henry Pickhardt in Grinnell. They farmed in the Malcom area until 5 years ago, when they moved to Grinnell to make their home.
She is survived by her husband, Louis, and 2 of 5 children: Lester Pickhardt of Malcom and Ilene, Mrs. Wells Weyrauch, of Grinnell. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren: Wanda and Lowell Pickhardt and Gary and Neil Weyrauch. 2 sisters and 2 brothers survive her: Mrs. Elizabeth Hink of Jump River, Wisconsin; Mrs. Florence Lucas of Route 3, Grinnell; and James Cogley of Jacksonville, Florida and John Cogley of Route 3, Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 children: Esther Emma when only 2 monlths old and 2 babies in infancy; a sister, Frances and a brother Dennis.
Services for Mrs. Louis Pickhardt will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Laverne H. Streich, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church officiating. Organist will be Mrs. Elmer Hillman. Pallbearers are Clarence Cogley, Robert Fontinel, Laverne Lamb, William Nagel, Eldon Oltrogge, and Ervin Schultz. Flower bearers are Mrs. Hilliard Turner and Mrs. Walter Plum. Burial will be made in the Trinity American Lutheran cemetery north of Malcom. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.
