MR. GILLESPIE DIES AT 88

Harry Ithel Gillespie, 88, formerly of Grinnell, died March 28 in Port Angeles, Wash.

The son of Elmer and Sophia See Gillespie, he was born Oct. 9, 1884, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County. He attended rural school west of Grinnell and later attended Grinnell High School.

On Jan. 1, 1905, he was married to Ruby Belle Pugh. The couple had five children: Thelma R. Krumm and Wilma Esther Arment, both deceased; Ada Elizabeth Tychsen of Marshalltown; C. Ithel Gillespie of Grinnell; and Doris I. Phipps of Port Angeles.

Mr. Gillespie was preceded in death by his wife in 1955, two brothers, two sisters, and two granddaughters. Survivors include three children, 22 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In 1957, he was married to Editth McDonald, who also survives.

Harry and Ruby Gillespie farmed in the Grinnell area until 1930, after which he worked dehorning cattle for farmers in the area. Since 1956, he had made his home in Port Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Gillespie were charter members of the Westfield Grange.

Burial of ashes at the Chester Township Cemetery is pending.

GRAVESIDE RITES

Graveside services for Harry I. Gillespie, father of Ithel Gillespie, were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chester Cemetery, with the Rev. Neil S. Longo officiating. (Grinnell, Iowa Herald-Register April 2, 1973)
