CHARLES GORSUCH BORN IN LOG CABIN NEAR MONTEZUMA
Charles, youngest son of Margaret Murrow and Thomas Gorsuch, was born May 13, 1873, in a log cabin on a farm 3 1/2 miles northeast of Montezuma. He died July 23 at 90 years of age.
He grew to manhood on the farm, attending the rural school near his home. His father died when he was 11, then he and his sisters cared for their mother until her death in 1910.
He was united in marriage with Laura Forcum Mar. 2, 1902, and they established their home on his farm. In 1915 they moved into Montezuma and have since resided here. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last March. He spent his entire life in and near Montezuma and is the last of nine children.
He joined the Methodist church as a young man and was active in it as long as his health permitted. He served as an usher for 20 years and was a member of the Board of Trustees for many years. He became a 50-year member of Aztec Lodge, Knights of Pythias in 1944.
Survivors are his wife of the home, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Memorial services were conducted at the Methodist church at 2 p.m. July 26, conducted by Rev. Frank Jacobs. Miss Alice Undrwood played the organ selections and accompanied Mrs. Vincent Johnson as she sang "Home of the Soul" and "Going Home." Interment was in the family lot in Masonic-IOOF cemetery under direction of the Steffy Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Charles McKee, Donald Crider, Frank Wheeler, Loel Ferguson, Raymond Ehret and Alva Shearer.
