BESSIE GOOCH SERVICES JULY 28

Bessie Lou Gooch of New Sharon died Saturday, July 25, at Grinnell General Hospital. She was 80 years old.

She was born on March 28, 1890, the daughter of Robert W. and Sara Wilson Reynolds, at Crab Orchard, Ky. Her early life was spent in the Kentucky area, until she married Edwin Gooch on July 30, 1905. The couple then moved to Iowa, living in and around Grinnell until the early '30s, when they moved to the Searsboro community. Later they also lived on a farm near New Sharon, then on a small acreage, and finally to New Sharon.

While near Grinnell, Mrs. Gooch joined the Grange, in which she was very active. At the time of her death she was a member of the Midway Grange near Montezuma. She was also a member of several church groups and the Star Community Club.

She is survived by four children, Mrs. J.L. (Ida) Heisel of San Carlos, Calif., Mrs. Karl Pearson of Gilman, Delmar of Tampa, Fla., and Carman of Des Moines; several nieces and nephews, 13 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a 2-year-old son, and two brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gooch were held July 28 at the Harden Chapel in New Sharon, with burial in the Friends Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons Ed Gooch, Tom Pearson, Ronnie J. Williams, Lenny Bierma, Jerry Meredith and John Terpstra.

The Star Club was in charge of flowers.
