ROXIE T. PEARSON

Roxie T. Pearson, 95, of Grinnell, formerly of Gilman, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at St. Francis Manor.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Maskevich, pastor of Newburg-Chester Congregational Church, officiating. Piano and flute music were by Melinda Connon and Dave Connon was vocalist. Pall bearers were Edwin Gooch, David and Joseph Kalkwarf, Todd Pearson, James Schmidt and Ronald Williams. Interment was in Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman. Memorials may be made to Grinnell Regional Hospice.

She was born Jan. 17, 1909, in rural Poweshiek County to Edwin and Bessie Reynolds Gooch. She was raised in Grinnell and the surrounding area, attending rural schools and Grinnell High School. She began a career as a housekeeper in 1926 and during the next 15 years worked for many interesting people including a family in Ensenada, Mexico.

She was married on April 11, 1941, in Unionville, Mo., to Karl M. Pearson and they farmed over the next 32 years near Melbourne, Albion, Gilman and Grinnell. In 1970, they began annual winter trips to Brooksville, Fla. Following their retirement in 1970, they moved to Gilman to make their home. She moved to Seeland Park in 2000. She was a member of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church and active in many church affairs.

She is survived by one son Thomas *A. Pearson of Chicago, Ill., and one daughter Dawn Kalkwarf of Colorado Springs, Colo.; six grandchildren and one brother, Corvan F. Gooch of Norwalk. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter Linda Pearson; one sister Ida Heisel and two brothers Delmar and Oddry Gooch.
