The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Sept. 18, 1934

FUNERAL OF MRS. ERNEST COUPER IS HELD FRIDAY

Dolly Evelyn Halterman was born on Sept. 9, 1909, and passed away on Sept. 11, 1934, being at the time of her death 25 years and two days old.

She has spent her entire life in Grinnell attending the public schools and later working at the Morrison-Ricker Manufacturing company. She was baptized in the Methodist church of this city when a small child. She was married to Ernest Couper of Grinnell on November 6, 1926. To this union one son, Robert, was born, now six years of age, who with her husband survive. She leaves also to mourn her loss five sisters, Mrs. James Simpson, Mrs. George Roe, Mrs. Harve Smith, Mrs. George Mowitt and Mrs. Archie Armstrong, all of this city, and two brothers, Duey of Grinnell and Claude Halterman of Rochester, N.Y.

Dolly has never been strong from childhood and she passed away after a lingering illness. While her death was not unexpected, it came as a shock to those near and dear to her.

The death of her mother on April 1 of this year had grieved her greatly and it was thought for a time that she could not survive, but her will power and her determination to live have carried her through these past few months.

She had often expressed the wish to live and be able to care for the little son now left, but the Lord saw fit to call her from her suffering.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist church, the Rev. H.S. Wilkinson in charge. Dave Phillips sang two solos, "Going Down the Valley" and "Old Rugged Cross."

The pallbearers were Fred Howard, Robert Lippencott, Roy Adkins, Jack Smith, Wendell Parmely and Don Sparks. The body was laid to rest in Hazelwood.
