RUTH MOWITT RITES TUESDAY

Ruth Mowitt, 82, of Grinnell died Friday March 20, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Cook of the New Hope United Methodist Church of Des Moines officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner and pallbearers will be Brian Bisbee, Larry Cook, Cliff Duncan, Ron Johnston, Dick Roe and Harold Schmidt. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Noah W. and Dora B. Morgan Halterman, she was born on Oct. 9, 1904, in Grinnell. She attended the Parker and Center schools and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1922.

She was married to George R. Mowitt on Sept. 21, 1929 at the Chester Congregational United Church of Christ. They lived in Grinnell where Mrs. Mowitt was active in the V.F.W. and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a chief operator for Interior Telephone from 1922 until 1942, then worked as a seamstress for DeLong Sportswear for 38 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Grace Simpson of Marshalltown and Louise Armstrong of Grinnell. A nephew whom she raised, Robert Couper, lives in Attbaro, Mass. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1967, three brothers, Claude, Dewey and Noah Halterman; and three sisters, Edith Roe, Maude Smith and Dolly Couper.
