Robert O. Sanders buried

Services for Robert O. Sanders, of Barnes City, were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, in the Steffy Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Davis and the Rev. William Morehouse officiated at the rites. Music was provided by organist Mrs. Dennis Johnston.

Casket bearers were Paul Case, John Grubb, Earnest Mason, Gale Rigg, Ray Jackson and John Westercamp. Burial was in Jackson township Cemetery.

Mr. Sanders, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 24, at the Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa.

The son of Otho M. and Frances E. Johnston Sanders, he was born Oct. 8, 1899, in
Poweshiek County. He attended rural school and worked on the family farm.

On Dec. 2, 1925, he was married to Lela Byers in Montezuma. They farmed in the Barnes City area and moved to their present home in 1932. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and served in several positions with the church. He was a member of the Barnes City school board and president of the Barnes City Co-op Telephone Co. for 20 years.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Lareta Jean and Clyde Sanders of New Sharon and Phyllis and Robert Rauch of Barnes City; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Edith Hockey of Barnes City, Mrs. Russell Ladely of Montezuma and Mrs. Harold Elliott of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Ralph, Roy, Cemon, Howard and Marvin.
