GERTRUDE ROTH

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Roth, 83, of Hartwick, were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 11, 1986, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn. Mrs. Roth died Friday night, Aug. 8, 1986, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn.

Rev. Fr. Karl Holtkamp, pastor of St. Patrick's, officiated. The organist was Mrs. Marilyn Kriegel. Honorary casket-bearers were Michael Himschoot, Tim Roth, Neal Roth, Richard Himschoot, Kevin Himschoot, Pat Bevins, and Gary Ostrom. Casket-bearers were James Roth, Terry Roberts, Brian Blomme, Wade Roth, Jeff Bevins, and Steve Ostrom. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn.

A rosary service was held at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home. St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society held a Rosary at 2 p.m., Sunday at Nevenhoven's.

Gertrude Blanch Dee Roth, daughter of Edward Walter Dee and Elmira Elizabeth Lyter Dee, was born near Kent Chapel in Poweshiek County on March 16, 1903. She received her education in a rural school and attended the Brooklyn High School. On Sept. 11, 1921 she was united in marriage to Ferdinand Antone Roth in Brooklyn. They farmed in the Hartwick area. Mr. Roth died in 1963.

Mrs. Roth was a life-long resident of Poweshiek County. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Patrick's Altar and Rosary Society, and Gold Star Mothers.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Wallace and Betty Roth of Hartwick, and Kenneth (Dee) and LaDonna Roth of Belle Plaine; five daughters and their husbands, Elmira and Kenneth Bevins of Belle Plaine, Vivian and Charles Himschoot of Ft. Meyers, Fla., Maxine and Cecil Roberts of Hartwick, Shirley and Donald Blomme of Hartwick, and Kathryn and Bruce Ostrom of Hartwick; one sister, Mrs. Daisy Johnston of Brooklyn; 26 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Roth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Edward; 6 brothers, Mike Dee, Frank Dee, John Dee, Clayborne Dee, Henry Dee, and Hiram Dee; four sisters, Hattie, Mollie and two infant sisters; and one granddaughter.
