EDWARD JONES FUNERAL IS HELD

Edward Marion Jones, was born Feb. 6, 1876 in Mahaska County near New Sharon, Iowa and passed away at his home at 513-4th Ave., Grinnell, Iowa, Monday, May 11, 1926 at the age of 50 years, 3 months, and 5 days.

At the age of eight he moved to Grinnell with his parents where he has lived all his life.

On January 20, 1897 he was united in marriage to Josephine Curtis.

To this union were born five children: Mrs. Jno. Hoffstatter, of Stuart, Iowa, Clifford, of Hannibal, Missouri, Mildred who lives at home, and Gailey and Herman who died in infancy.

He also leaves to mourn besides his devoted wife and three children, three sisters and one brother: Mrs. Etta Preston of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Anna Brown, of Grinnell, Mrs. Ida Peters of Turner, and Will Jones of Grinnell; and Allene Hoffstatter his only and much loved grand child.

He served in the Spanish-American War, and was first Lieutenant in the World War.

For many years he was an employe of the Spaulding Manufacturing Co. He was the first driver of Grinnell's Fire Truck and was Chief of the department and held that position for many years; for the past three years he has been employed at the Maytag Company in Newton, Iowa and won many friends in that city.

Sunday, May 3, 1926 he was taken ill with flu-pneumonia and after a short illness he was called to his Maker.

He was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. George Blagg, assisted by Rev. J.I. Frederick. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Messrs. Rice, Myers, Dawkins and W.A. Evans. Pall bearers were Will Laymiller, Harry Case, Lou Seiberth, P.L. Garrigan, W.J. Leins of Marshalltown and Steve Smith. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

The Senior of the Herald has known Mr. Jones since he was a pupil in the grades in Grinnell 39 years ago. He was a bright, merry, likeable young boy, who quickly fell into the ways of the new superintendent, and we formed a friendship for the boy which we have retained thro all the 39 years. We deeply regret the passing of Mr. Jones. We always will think of him as the kind, generous hearted boy and man we have known so long, and to his family we extend our deepest sympathy.
