PAULSON RITES HELD TUESDAY

Martin Hans Paulson, 89, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 10 at St. Francis Manor here.

Funeral services for Martin Paulson were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Morris Hay, pastor of the Hickory Grove E.U.B. church, officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Donald Renaud. Pallbearers were Edward Bailey, James Bailey, Craig Paulson, Ken Saunders II, Donald Taylor and Kenneth Taylor. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Martin Paulson was the son of Hans and Pauline Thygeson Paulson, and was born on July 12, 1887 in Kellogg. He attended rural schools near his home. On Jan. 8, 1916, he was married to Margaret Mae Elmore in Des Moines.

Mr. and Mrs. Paulson lived in and near Grinnell after their marriage and farmed west of Grinnell for 38 years before moving into the city in 1955. Paulson was a member of the Kellogg Christian Church and the Victor Grange.

He is survived by his children, Howard M. Paulson of Pasadena, Calif.; Mrs. William (Ruth) Taylor of Grinnell; Mrs. Lawrence (Doris) Sleewenhoek of Malcom; Merle E. Paulson of Grinnell; Mrs. John (Genevieve) Bailey of Gilman; Keith R. Paulson of Grinnell; and Mrs. Kenneth (Phyllis) Saunders; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Laurine Larson of Villa Park, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae, who died in 1972; his parents, four brothers, three sisters: Mrs. Andrew (Lena) Paulsen; Nels Paulson; Mrs. C.D. (Christina) Newell; Andrew Paulson; Charles J. Paulson; Katie Paulson; and Henry Paulson.
