DIED.

GEORGE LONGSHORE

On Tuesday evening George Longshore gave up the long fight for life which he had made against the encroachments of the dread disease, consumption, and passed away in Longmont, Colorado, where he has lived for several years in the hope of regaining his health. The news was brought by telegram on Wednesday morning and came as a blow to many friends, who had known George during his boyhood in Grinnell, had watched with interest his brilliant record as a high school athlete and his development into a fine type of young manhood. A dispatch received this morning states that the body will reach Grinnell this evening.

The Grinnell Herald; Aug. 8, 1911

With brief funeral ceremonies all that was mortal of George Longshore was laid to its last rest in Hazelwood cemetery on Sunday afternoon. The main funeral had been conducted before the body left Colorado, so the services were of the simplest. Rev. Elias Handy pronounced a prayer at the old Longshore homestead on Broad street from which the body was borne to the cemetery. There was another prayer at the grave. Mr. and Mrs. John Longshore accompanied the body of their son to Grinnell. James Byerly, who was in Colorado at the time of the death, also returned to the funeral.
