MARGARET RUTH DAVIS, 86

Margaret Davis, 86, of Grinnell and formerly of Ewart, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 17, at the Hollnad-Coble Funeral Home with the Reverend Eldon Pals officiating. Interment was in the Friends Cemetery in Lynnville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mayflower Human Needs Endowment Fund. Friends may give condolences or sign the online guest book at hollandcoblefuneralhome.com. Holland-Coble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Ruth Davis, daughter of Glenn and Ruth (Jimerson) Geer, was born on June 18, 1922 in Liberty, Neb. She was a 1940 graduate of Barneston High School in Barneston, Neb. She received her teacher's certificate from Doane College in Crete, Neb., in 1942. Margaret began her teaching career at a country school in Auburn, Neb. She taught there for a year before relocating to Iowa, where she taught at Searsboro, Brooklyn, and White Cloud Country School north of Brooklyn. On Feb. 20, 1948, Margaret was united in marriage to Keith W. Davis. She was married in a triple wedding with two of her sisters. To this union four children were born, Charles, Ruth, Karen and Cheryl. Margaret went back to school and received her bachelor's degree from Drake University in 1969. After graduation, she went to teach at Montezuma Elementary where she taught fifth-grade. Margaret retired in 1988. She enjoyed playing bridge, dominos, crocheting and camping. She also loved golf, traveling and spending time with her family. Margaret belonged to the Montezuma Country Club, the Ewart Presbyterian Church, Retired Teachers, several bridge clubs, and she was a 60-year member of the Eastern Star.

Her memory will be cherished by her two daughters, Ruth Davis of Council Bluffs, and Karen Johnson of Marathon; her six grandchildren, Shelley (Jeff) Shoemaker of Ladora, Shannon (Mike) Arendt of Montezuma, Brian Berry of Montezuma, Beth Johnson of Iowa City, Rowan Welch of Council Bluffs, and Karla Johnson of Waterloo; her eight great-grandchildren, Alisha Arendt, Gaige Arendt, Brayden Arendt, Koby Shoemaker, Kaleah Shoemaker, Lily Shoemaker, Hailey Wilson, and Taylor Wilson; two sisters, Berenice Doehrmann of Rickreall, Ore., and Phyllis Drape of Portland, Ore.; a son-in-law, Don Berry of Montezuma; and many other nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Ruth Geer; her husband, Keith Davis; a daughter, Cheryl Berry; an infant son, Charles Davis; and two sisters, Betty Cruchelow and Norma Cheuvront.
