MARY RUTH ROUTIER

Mary Ruth Routier, 86, of Grinnell, died on Friday, March 4, 2011, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, March 9, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice or to Grinnell Home Health.

Mary Ruth was born on Dec. 26, 1924, in Putnam County, Unionville, Missouri to Paul and Marie Wilson Davis. She was raised and educated in Unionville.

On Jan. 21, 1950, she was united in marriage with Lyle Routier in Newton. She worked as a waitress at the Skel Diner and the Tropic Club, and also enjoyed babysitting for several people. She retired from Maytag as a press operator after 14-and-a-half years.

She enjoyed handiwork, dancing, camping, puzzles, and tending to her plants. Her greatest love was her family and she enjoyed devoting time to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchild.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lyle Routier of Grinnell; her children, Marj Smith of Grinnell, Larry Dye of Livonia, Mo., Connie Lamb of Grinnell, Cindy Weldon of Belle Plaine and Roger Routier of Gilman; 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Keith W. Davis of Grinnell; and two sisters, Ilene Connealy of Gilman, and Louise Hudson of Centerville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant daughter, Linda Sue Routier; her brother, Howard Davis; a sister, Elaine Probasco; and three infant siblings.
