MRS. V.G. PRESTON, 88, DIES; FUNERAL SERVICES SATURDAY

Mrs. Darline Davis Preston, 88, the widow of the late V.G. Preston, a longtime clothing merchant in Grinnell, passed away early Wednesday evening at her home, 1226 Broad Street. She has been ill for the past several years.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Carroll L. (Selma) Dickerson of Des Moines, and a son, Stanley Davis Preston, of Grinnell; two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, V.G. Preston on December 19, 1954, six brothers and one sister.

Born on a farm in Sheridan Township, Poweshiek County, March 14 1872, she was the daughter of Harrison I. and Emily Trimble Davis. She was a graduate of Grinnell high school and attended Grinnell College.

On October 14, 1896, she was united in marriage to Virgil Grant Preston by the Rev. E.M. Vittum in Grinnell. To this union, two children were born, Mrs. Carroll L. (Selma) Dickerson, and Stanley Davis Preston.

Mrs. Preston has been a resident of Grinnell for 76 years and was active in the Congregational Church, the Tuesday Club and the D.A.R.
