FRANK RIX, 78, RITES THURSDAY

Frank Rix, 78, of 1514 Elm St., Grinnell, passed away Monday evening at his home.

He was born Oct. 21, 1889, the son of Henry and Emma Kelm Rix, on a farm south of Grinnell. He attended the rural school No. 5 in Grant Township.

On Feb. 18, 1920, he was united in marriage with Katharine Frahm at her parents' home in Grinnell. Following their marriage the couple farmed south of Grinnell for 21 years. In 1941, they moved to their farm in Sheridan Township where they remained until their retirement in 1954.

Mr. Rix, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the American Lutheran Church Men, was a veteran of World War I, where he served with the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his widow Katharine, his son Earl, his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Betty of Harmans, Md.; three grandchildren, Robert Earl, Edward Carl and Catherine; two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Anna) Wichman and Mrs. Julia Parker both of Grinnell; and six nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services for Mr. Rix will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Ronald Spears will officiate, and interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Vocalists will be Mrs. Peter Boeke and Mrs. Marvin Amo. The organist will be Mrs. Marvin Nothnagel. Serving on the flower committee are Mrs. Harry Ryan, Mrs. Richard Turner, Mrs. Norman Graham, and Mrs. Tena Hillman. Pallbearers include Clyde Austin, Wilford Mikel, Lavern Edgeton, Robert Wade, Harry Ryan and Richard Turner.

Friends may call at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Thurday, and thereafter at St. John's Lutheran Church.
