ROGER E. CLAYTON

Roger E. Clayton, 65, of Rte. 1, Brooklyn, died Saturday, April 8 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Family graveside services were conducted Monday at Brooklyn Cemetery. Memorial services were also held Monday at Madison Church of Christ in rural Brooklyn, with Dennis Smith officiating.

A memorial fund has been established.

The son of Allen Paul and Jeanetta Graham Clayton, he was born Dec. 17, 1923, on a farm near Brooklyn. He attended Grinnell High School.

He was married to Helen Anthony Oct. 24, 1954, in rural Tama.

Mr. Clayton was a retired farmer and has also worked for 20 years at Tama Livestock Auction. He did custom corn shelling for 21 years.

He was a member and trustee of the Madison Church of Christ, a member of the board of directors of Poweshiek Water Association, a director of Brooklyn Mutual Telephone Co., and a member of the Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his wife, Helen; three sons, Ronald and Richard, both of Grinnell, and David, stationed with the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes Naval Base, Ill.; four daughters, Donna Kirby of Peoria, Ariz., Louise Worsham of Glen Ellyn, Ill., Susan St. John of Bennett, Colo., and Virginia Clayton of Brooklyn; three brothers, Miles of Brooklyn, Graham of Des Moines and Paul of Grinnell; two sisters, Mary Dean and Pauline Phipps, both of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert; and a step-grandson.
