OBITUARY

ROBERT ALLEN CLAYTON

Memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 1960 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell for Robert Allen Clayton, who passed away at St. Francis hospital Jan. 26, after several weeks of failing health due to a heart ailment.

Robert (Bobbie) was born Aug. 22, 1927, on the old Graham farm in Madison township near Brooklyn, Iowa. The son of Allen Paul Clayton and Jeanetta Graham Clayton-Hartshorn. His father passed away in 1937. The family moved to Grinnell in 1939 where Bobbie spent his remaining days.

He was baptized in Rock Creek Lake by Brother Donald Skiles and became a charter member of the Grinnell Christian church when it was organized.

Bobbie is survived by his mother, four brothers--Miles and Roger of Brooklyn, Graham of Des Moines, and Paul Gene of Grinnell, by two sisters--Mrs. Richard (Mary) Dean and Mrs. Dale (Pauline) Phipps of Grinnell, nineteen nieces and nephews, and his grandmother, Mrs. Dora Graham. A large part of Bobbie's life was spent in his grandparents' home.

Services were conducted by Logan Dunham, minister of the Grinnell Christian church, and Stephen J. Epler, associate minister.

A cousin, Donna Fae Larson, was organist, and another cousin, Mrs. Don Thompson, sang "One sweetly solemn thought comes to me o'er and o'er."

The pallbearers--all cousins--were David Abel, Bruce Bolen, Merle Burnell, Max Clayton, William Clayton, and James Lang. Flower bearers were Mrs. Cliff O'Brien, a friend of the deceased, his aunt, Mrs. Herbert Kleiss, and a cousin, Alan Kleiss.

Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery, Brooklyn, Ia., in the Clayton lot.
