DEAN O. CLARK

Dean O. Clark, 71, of Grinnell died Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown of a stroke.

Funeral Services for Dean Clark will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 10, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. Todd Follette, pastor of the First Friends Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Denny Clark, Dick Clark, Nick Clark, Denny Durr, Bill and Bob Ford, Daryl Morrison Jr. and Denny Rankin. Honorary pallbearers will be Dick Bailey, Lloyd Durr and Roger Long.

Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery in rural Jasper County.

The son of Orville and Edna Rinker Clark, Dean Clark was born on June 16, 1931, in Iowa County near Deep River. He was raised near Newburg and moved to Grinnell in 1941. He attended Grant No. 2 rural school and later attended schools in Newburg and Grinnell.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. After the war, he returned to Grinnell, then moved to Anaheim, Calif., in 1956. There, he drove a milk tanker.

He returned to Grinnell in 1965 and began his career with Clark Brothers Painting, from which he retired in 1991. He married Margaret Durr on May 1, 1967, in Grinnell.

He had been a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown since 1999.

He was a member of the Grinnell American Legion and the VFW.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Christy McIlrath of Indianapolis; three sons, Terry, Curtis and Robert Clark, all of Indianapolis; two step-daughters, Linda Conner of Oveida, Fla., and Karen Ford of Grinnell; one step-son Daryl Morrison of Grinnell; and one brother, Dick Clark of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
