LEROY E. DURR

LeRoy Everett Durr, 82, of rural Grinnell died Friday, May 13, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Crist of the Church of Christ in Winigan, Mo., and Pastor Waylon Taylor of Glidden officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and vocalists were Robin and Rick Young. Pallbearers were Gordon Ashby, Gary Durr, Jerry Reid, David Durr, Lloyd Durr and Carl Sparks. Burial was in Rock Creek Cemetery, Jasper County.

The son of Arthur and Delphena Decatur Durr, he was born April 13, 1912, in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County. He was a 1930 graduate of Grinnell High School. Mr. Durr farmed all of his life except for a few years when he worked for Midwest Stamping Co. of Kellogg.

He was married to Elsie Irene Taylor June 25, 1935, in Rock Island, Ill. They farmed in the Sheridan and Chester communities north of Grinnell until returning to the family farm in 1960.

Mr. Durr was a former member of the board of directors of the Kellogg Co-op Elevator. He was also a former member of the board of the Iowa Border Collie Association. He was a recognized breeder and showman of American Shorthorn cattle.

Surviving are his wife, Elsie; two children, Linda Schumacher of Council Bluffs and Ronald Durr of Grinnell; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Gladys Benson of Grinnell, Lucille Yanacek of Cedar Rapids and Bette Anderson of Anaheim, Calif.

He was preceded in death by one son, Larry; a grandson; two sisters, Irene Sparks and Thelma Taylor; and his parents.
