RITES HELD FOR HELEN SPEAS

Helen Speas, 63, of Rte. 2, Brooklyn, died Sunday, Feb. 26, at her home.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, with the Revs. Philip Speas and Joseph Speas officiating. Pallbearers were Martin Taylor, David Hunter, Gordon Van Donselaar, Richard Ferguson, Mike Weatherall and Robert Thompson. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, Grinnell.

The daughter of James Bertram and Wilhelmina O'Neill Huff, she was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Grinnell. She was a graduate of Grinnell High School and taught in rural schools.

She was married to Eldon E. Speas on Dec. 24, 1943, in Grinnell. They farmed near Lynnville, Gilman and Malcom before moving to a farm north of Brooklyn 17 years ago.

Mrs. Speas attended the Church of the Brethren of Brooklyn and the Bible Covenant Church of Laurel. She was a member and secretary of the Iowa Holiness Association.

She is survived by her husband, Eldon; two sons, Glen Speas of Walla Walla, Wash., and the Rev. Philip Speas of Kaymar, Md.; one brother, Lloyd Huff of Eagle Point, Ore.; two sisters, Frances Flint and Lois Van Donselaar, both of Grinnell; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and four brothers.
