MRS. YOUNG RITES FRIDAY

Mrs. Lena Mae Young, 89, the widow of Fred Elmore Young, died Tuesday (Aug. 28) at the long-term care center of Grinnell General Hospital.

The daughter of Paul P. and Anna H. Paulson, she was born Nov. 26, 1883, in Kellogg. She attended the Kellogg schools. On Sept. 12, 1905, she was married to Fred E. Young in Kellogg. The couple had five children, three of whom survive: Howard R. Young of Grinnell, G. Paul Young of Des Moines, and Mrs. Manferd (Joelle) Mitchell of Moraga, Calif.

Mr. and Mrs. Young farmed in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, for 23 years and Palo Alto Township south of Newton for three years before moving to Oakland, Calif., in 1935. Mr. Young died Jan. 10, 1952, and Mrs. Young continued to make her home there until 1955 when she moved to Portland, Ore., to be near her daughter. In 1958, Mrs. Young returned to Grinnell.

She was a charter member of the Victor Grange, a member of the Hickory Grove E.U.B. Church, and a member of the Grinnell Grandmothers Club.

Mrs. Young is survived by her three children; four grandchildren, Harry P. Young of Douglas, Wyo., Harvey R. Young of San Jose, Calif., David G. Young of Chadron, Neb., and Mrs. Richard (Janet) Arduser of Ladora; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Walter E. Paulson of Kellogg. She was preceded in death by her husband; two children, Maurice Young, who died as the result of a drowning accident at age 14, and Mrs. Hazel Bengston, who died in November of 1950; five sisters, Mrs. Tenie Marie Stevens DeHart, Mrs. Laura Adams, Mrs. Minnie Charlesworth, Mrs. Katherine Stockdale, and Nellie Paulson; and a brother, Freddie Paulson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Young will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Morris Hay, pastor of the Hickory Grove E.U.B. Church, officiating. Music will be provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner, organist, and Mrs. Wayne Dayton, vocalist. Pallbearers will be Verlin Adkins, Virgil Doud, Harold Fleener, Kenneth Keenan, Hollis Parmley, and Gerald Rankin. Honorary pallbearers will be Leser Adkins, Henry Ahrens, Claire Jackson, Henry Lauber, and Martin Paulson.

Burial will be in Palo Alto Township Cemetery south of Newton.
