J.B. CLAYWORTH FUNERAL HELD

Joseph B. Clayworth who has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. H.O. Shaw for the past ten years, passed away Tuesday afternoon of infirmities of old age. He was an early resident of Rock Creek township and was well known to the older residents of that vicinity. Mr. Clayworth was past 85 years of age. He was born in Van Wert, Ohio.

Funeral services were held from the Shaw home at 1406 East street yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. William Welsh after which the body was taken to Oak Cemetery near Oskaloosa for final services and burial.

Joseph Butler Clayworth was the son of John and Berthia Clayworth. He was born at Van Wert, Ohio, Feb. 7, 1845, and died at Grinnell, Sept. 9, 1930, aged 85 years, 7 months and 2 days.

He married Josephine Perkins, of Oskaloosa, Nov. 19, 1874. Five children were born to this union,--Lillie (Mrs. H.O. Shaw), Mary, Leona, (Mrs. Frank Weigle) an infant son, and John E. Clayworth.

Of this number the surviving children are: Mrs. H.O. Shaw, of Grinnell, Iowa, and John E. Clayworth, of Kansas City, Mo. He is also survived by six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and other relatives.

He came to Iowa in pioneer days, farming land just west of Grinnell, in Jasper Coutny which he broke from the raw prairie. Later he moved to a farm east of Oskaloosa, then to Missouri, where he lived and worked until the death of his wife, but advancing age compelled him to retire, since which time he has made his home with his son in Kansas City, and his daughter, in Grinnell.

He was of a quiet, retiring dispostion, deeply religious, and proud of his connection with the Baptist Church. He retained his membership in the Linwood Ave. Baptist Church of Kansas City, until his death, and was also a faithful attendant of the Baptist Church and Sunday School in Grinnell, until his enfeebled condition prevented further attendance.

A good man has gone to his reward.
