Patrick G. Cadden, 84, of 1110 Main St., Grinnell, died at his home following an extended illness on Sunday, June 16.

The Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Harry Linnenbrink officiating. Organist was Mary Ellen Brock, and vocalists were Ruth Ann Dayton and Wilma Schmitz.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Cadden, Mike Cadden, Greg McDonald, Jeffrey McDonald, Patrick McDonald and Steven Sandberg. Honorary bearers were Orrin Andes, Joseph Cox, Clyde Davis, Raphael Gallager, P.D. Varnum and Wayne Wiley.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery at Brooklyn.

The Scripture Service was recited at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Patrick and Margaret Sievert Cadden, he was born Dec. 19, 1900, at Marshalltown. He attended St. Mary's Parochial School there.

Following the death of his father, his mother married Frank Backoff and the family moved to a farm between Rhodes and State Center.

On April 28, 1926, he was married to EllDora Dowell at State Center. They moved to a farm in Madison township in Poweshiek County the following year.

Mr. Cadden served as Madison Township assessor from 1934 to 1952 and as township clerk from 1940 to 1952.

Mr. and Mrs. Cadden moved to Grinnell where he was employed in the Building and Grounds Department of Grinnell College. He later worked as a custodian at Grinnell Federal Savings and Loan Association. He was a former director of the Grinnell Historical Museum Board and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dora; his children, Margaret J. Sandberg of Long Beach, Calif., Dorothy A. Dodson of Anaheim, Calif., Patrick R. Cadden of rural Brooklyn, Donald P. Cadden of Grinnell and Colleen McDonald of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
