WENDELL LEWIS FUNERAL HELD THIS AFTERNOON

Wendell C. Lewis, former Grinnell resident, died Tuesday morning at a rest home in Des Moines. He had made his home in Des Moines for the past few months.

Funeral services were held today from the James Funeral Home with the Rev. E.E. Beattie officiating. Mrs. Maynard Long was the soloist and was accompanied by Mrs. Eugene Holley.

Flower committee members were Mrs. Jayne Skidmore and Mrs. Herb Hutchison. Pallbearers were John Peak, Eugene Holley, John Peters, Glenn Anderson, Gene Breiting, and Cecil Myers. Interment was at Hazelwood cemetery.

Born Feb. 19, 1875, at Marengo, he was the son of Gifford and Cynthia Lewis. In 1897 he moved with his family to Grinnell where he farmed and later worked at the Spaulding Mfg. Co. In 1912 he entered the Postal Service from which he retired in 1941.

He married Emma *Srader on Sept. 15, 1935, and she preceded him in death in April, 1955. He was the last surviving member of his family.

Mr. Lewis was a member of the Presbyterian church, where he served as elder, Sunday school superintendent, and a member of the choir.
