One of Grinnell's stalwart and active residents for a number of years, reached the end of life's journey Saturday morning when Franklin G. Lewis passed away at St. Francis hospital. He had reached the advanced age of 85 years and up to the last year had been in vigorous health. He had been failing the last few weeks and had gone to the hospital for treatment.

Rev. E.M. Vittum conducted the funeral services at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the Congregational church of which Mr. Lewis for many years had been an active and faithful member. A quartet composed of Mrs. D.H. Snook, Mrs. Carl Hutchison, Rev. H.C. Rice and G.O. Hutchins sang the hymns which Mr. Lewis had selected to be sung at his funeral: "Saved by Grace," "It Is Well With My Soul," My Jesus as Thou Wilt" and "Home of the Soul." Mrs. J.P. Ryan was at the organ.

Franklin G. Lewis was born on a farm in Vermont in 1840 and in early youth came west with his parents. For many years he lived near Marengo. When he retired in 1897 he came to Grinnell, which has been his home ever since.

Mrs. Lewis passed away ten years ago and he is survived by his son Wendell and by four grandchildren, children of another son who also preceded him in death.
