MRS. GEORGE WEBBER DIES IN MONTEZUMA

(From the Montezuma Republican)

Funeral services for Mrs. George Webber, 88, who died Friday morning, were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church. The pastor, the Rev. J.H. Krenmyre, was in charge. Lafayette Chapter No. 232, O.E.S., conducted their ritualistic service at the church following the sermon. Interment was in the Montezuma cemetery.

Pallbearers were Guy Gorsuch, Sidney Webber, Ray Hutchinson, Henry Hutchinson, Fred McKee and Will McKee. Mrs. C.W. Gorsuch and Mrs. J.H. Krenmyre, accompanied at the organ by Miss Alice Underwood, sang "Ivory Palaces" and "Still, Still With Thee."

Mrs. Webber was loved and respected by all who knew her. Although in failing health for some time, she was ever cheerful. She was active in church work up until a few years ago, and liked to keep up with the doings of the day. Coming to Montezuma in an early day, she watched with keen interest the changes in the community.

She inquired daily concerning her brother, the late J.L. Rodgers, and had not been informed of his death.

Martha Ann, fifth child of John H. and Lavina (Woodward) Rodgers, was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, February 14, 1847, and passed away at her home in Montezuma on December 13, 1935, at the age of 88 years and ten months.

She came to Iowa with her parents in 1870 and located in Montezuma, later moving to a farm south of town.

She was united in marriage with George A. Webber on December 17, 1879, and lived on a farm north of Montezuma until the fall of 1906, when they moved to town.

She was preceded in death by her husband on March 20, 1916, and by a brother, J.L. Rodgers, on December 3 of this year. Three sisters and two brothers passed away during childhood.

She is survived by one daughter, Blanche L. Wheeler; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two stepdaughters, Mrs. J.J. Gorsuch and Mrs. D.T. Gorsuch; one stepson, J.C. Webber, who with their children had learned to call her grandmother; and one brother, J.J. Rodgers.

She united with the church when 18 years of age, and after coming to Montezuma transferred her membership to the local Methodist church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah lodge.
