MONTOUR RESIDENT BERNARD L. MARVIN SERVICES SATURDAY

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for Bernard L. Marvin, Sr., 51, of Montour, who died early Wednesday morning after a short illness.

Born Oct. 27, 1919 at Dean, Ia., Marvin was the son of Charles and Mayme Morrow Marvin. He received his education in Moulson and Grinnell, growing up mainly in the Grinnell area.

Marvin was a 1940 enlistee in the Marines. He was married in 1941 to Esther Hansen of Toledo at Unionville, Mo. Later he was remarried, to Betty Barker of Montour. Upon his discharge from the Marines in 1945, he was employed by Springer Lumber Co. in Toledo, moving to the Iowa Wood Preserving plant in Tama in 1950.

In 1954, Marvin began a job at the Marshalltown foundry of Lennox Industries, Inc., where he worked as a journeyman molder until his death. He was a member of the Tama-Toledo Aerie 2828, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and a member of the United Soldiers and Foundry Workers, Local 91.

Preceding Marvin in death were an infant daughter, his father, his stepfather Holly York, an infant brother, and a half sister.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty J. Marvin of Montour; eight children: Lori, 8, Sandra, 11, Cheryl, 14, at home, Deborah of Belle Plaine, Denny of Carey, Ohio, Mrs. Larry (Siretta) Blocker of Toledo, and Mrs. Robert (Kay) Stevens of Grinnell; nine grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Mayme York of Friendship Manor in Grinnell; and five stepchildren; William Barker in Colorado, Charles Barker in Fort Riley, Kan., and Denny, Steven, and Michael Barker in Montour.

Also surviving are a brother, Charles R. Marvin of Toledo; half-brothers Charles R. Laver, Eugene Marvin and Richard Marvin, all of Osceola, Melvin York of Grinnell; and half-sisters Mrs. Glen (Beverly) McKnoughton of Osceola, Mrs. Vincent (Joanne) Keenan of Newton, and Mrs. Douglas (Shirley) Akers of Boone.

Funeral services will be in the Mason-Hand Funeral Home in Tama, with Rev. Lee R. Collins, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Toledo, officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Montour.
