CHARLES MARVIN

Charles Robert Marvin, 77, of Tama, formerly of Grinnell, died of a heart attack Thursday, Jan. 8, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Harrison Funeral Home in Tama, with the Rev. Ron Arends officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo.

The son of Charles and Mamie Morrow Marvin, he was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Dean, Iowa. He received his education in the Grinnell Schools and was employed as a driller at Malcom Stone Quarry.

He was married to Esther Hansen Dec. 6, 1958, in Marysville, Mo.

Mr. Marvin was a union steward for Local 234 of the Operating Engineers. He was a former member of the Eagles Lodge.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Bernard of Tama; four daughters, Kay Stevens of Des Moines, Siretta Blocker of Garwin, Deb Thede of Tama, and Sheryl Collinson of Toledo; three sisters, Joanne Keenan of Newton, Beverly McNaughton of Boone and Shirley Akers of Leon; four brothers, Melvin York of Grinnell, Laverne Marvin of Osceola, Richard Marvin of Osceola and Gene Marvin of Lewisville, Texas; his stepmother, Evan Marvin of Osceola; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dennis; one daughter, Carol; three brothers; one sister; one grandson; two great-grandsons; and his stepfather, Hollie York.
