RITES THURSDAY FOR R.W. BRECKENRIDGE

Robert W. Breckenridge, 68, died at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 1966, in Mary Greeley hospital, Ames, after several months illness. He was associate professsor of mechanical engineering at Iowa State University.

He was born at Brooklyn, April 17, 1898. He served as a second class seaman during World War I. In 1921 he married Mildred McLain of Brooklyn. He was in the hardware business here until going to Iowa State University in 1929. He received a B.S. in industrial education in 1932, a M.S. in the same field in 1934 and a B.S. in Mechanical engineering in 1938. He was made associate professor in 1956.

He was awarded a faculty citation by Iowa State University Alumni Association in 1964. He was a member of Pi Tau Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Society of Engineer Education, past chairman of Des Moines chapter of American Society for Metals, and a member of the American society of Tool Engineers.

In addition to his professional activities he was a former president of the Iowa Archeological society, member of the Iowa Governor's Commission on Indian affairs, active in Boy Scouts, past president of Ames P.T.A., trustee of the Collegiate Presbyterian church, member of the Masonic lodge and past president of the Ames Garden club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Dr. Bruce Breckenridge of St. Louis, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Harriett Turkington, Norman, Oklahoma; Mrs. Esther Blackburn, Baltimore, Md.; and Mrs. Eleanor Gates of College Station, Texas; two brothers, Harold of Boone and Walter of Minneapolis, and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Collegiate Presbyterian Church, Ames, with Rev. John D. Davies officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. cemetery, Brooklyn. The Adams Funeral Home, Ames, is in charge.
