DAVID J. (JUNIOR) RICHARDS, 83

David J. (Junior) Richards, 83, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2006 at his home in Cedar, Iowa.

His funeral service was Monday, Jan. 9, at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with the Rev. Alvern Boetsma officiating. Burial, with military rites performed by the Blakley-Stevens American Legion Post No. 169, was at the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma. Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Jeff Rhoads, Aaron Langstraat, Chad Langstraat, David J. Richards, J.J. Linderman and Eric Richards.

Honorary Pallbearers were Kim Fite, Valerie DeRooi, Robin Norman, Holly O'Connor and Amanda Linderman.

David J. Richards was born April 23, 1922 in Deep River, the son of David A. and Amanda (Ammann) Richards. He was in the Army Air Force and served his country in the Pacific Theater campaign. On Sept. 21, 1940, he was united in marriage with Mildred Logsdon at Oskaloosa. They were happily married for 65 years. David was a member of the Eddyville American Legion. He enjoyed dancing, hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, feeding his birds, just being outdoors in general, and most importantly, his family. David worked at Mahaska Industries in Oskaloosa as a production foreman until his health forced him to retire.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Cedar; four daughters, Linda Rhoads of Oskaloosa, Nancy (and Gary) Cooper of Bella Vista, Ark.; Sherry (and Jim) Linderman, Becky (and Terry) Langstraat of Cedar; a son, David (and Judy) Richards of Pineville, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Voyian Richards of Wisconsin and Lucille Richards of Tucson, Ariz., other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Roy, Orville, Ralph, John and Glenn; four sisters, Viola McMullen, Hazel Jacobs, Mary Shultz and Lela Burnett, and a son-in-law, Bub Rhoads.

Memorials in his name may be directed to either the family or the funeral home.
