NELLIE F. PILGRIM

Nellie F. Pilgrim, 92, of Mason City, died Saturday, June 2 at a nursing home there. She was a former resident of Grinnell.

Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 6 at the Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. James B. Brasel, pastor of the First Congregational-UCC Church in Mason City will officiate, with music provided by organist Edward Bohstedt and vocalists Patty Evans and Mary Edna Sherman. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

She was the daughter of Nathaniel A. and Lucritia Jane Dickerson Cooper, born Sept. 28, 1897, in Grinnell. A graduate of Grinnell High School in the class of 1916 she married Charles "Morey" Pilgram on March 6, 1918 in Oskaloosa. The couple farmed in the Grinnell area.

Long a member of the local United Church of Christ-Congregational, she was also a charter member of the Farm Bureau, a 4-H club leader, and a member of the DAR, the Friendship Community Club, the Searchlight Club and Church Women United. She also vounteered at Grinnell General Hospital.

She had lived in Grinnell all her life when, in May of 1987, she moved to Mason City to be near her daughter. She lived in a nursing facility there for two months.

She is survived by a daughter, Frances J. Barker of Mason City; two sons, James S. Pilgrim of Clinton and Richard D. Pilgrim of Nevada; and eight grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her husband; an infant son; a daughter Marilyn; two brothers, Fred and Claire; and five sisters, Ina Riley, Bernice Vinall, Ethel Holcomb, Lila Smith and Mae Cooper.
