MRS. ELIZA PICKENS.

Mrs. Eliza Pickens died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. David Paul, in this city, at 7 o'clock Thursday evening after an illness of more than two months.

The deceased was born in Antrim County, Ireland, June 16, 1825. In this place she grew to womanhood and was married to James Pickens. In 1868 she came with her husband to America, settling in Scott County, Iowa. Here they remained about 8 years, when they removed to Jasper county, where they spent practically the remainder of their lives. In 1899 the husband, James Pickens died, and the deceased then made her home with her daughter, Mrs. David Paul, who at that time lived in Newton. Six years ago Mr. and Mrs. Paul moved to Grinnell, Mrs. Pickens going with them, where she lived until the time of her death.

Five children, 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren are left to mourn her death. The children are: Mrs. H.S. Morrison, of Newton; Mrs. Henry Bergman, of Newton; Mrs. J.F. Lyman, of Rockwell City; Mrs. David Paul, of Grinnell, and Thomas A. Pickens, of Newton.

The funeral services were held at the David Paul home in Grinnell Saturday afternoon at one o'clock, after which the remains were taken to Kellogg for interment.
