BERNICE VINALL, 80, SERVICE SATURDAY

Eighty-year-old Mrs. Bernice June Vinall of 1032 Pearl St., Grinnell, passed away Thursday afternoon at the Marengo hospital.

She was the daughter of Nathaniel and Jennie Dickerson Cooper, and was born June 15, 1887, in Grinnell. She attended the local schools and graduated from Grinnell High School, and later from the Iowa Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines. On Aug. 5, 1919, she was united in marriage with Thomas Henry Vinall and to this union were born a son and a daughter--Jack H. Vinall of Savannah, Ga., and Mrs. Ernest (Wilma) Wilson of Luzerne, Ia.

Mrs. Vinall is also survived by five grandchildren -- Jack Jr., Daniel Thomas, and Bonnie Sue Vinall, all of Savannah; Florence June and Thomas Ernest Wilson, both of Luzerne. In addition she is survived by four sisters -- Mrs. S.G. (Lila) Smith, Mrs. C.W. (Ethel) Holcomb, and Mrs. C.M. (Nell) Pilgrim, all of Grinnell, and Mrs. W.R. (Viola) Root of LaSalle, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; two brothers, Fred and Claire Cooper; and two sisters, Mrs. Ina Riley and Mae Cooper.

Mrs. Vinall lived on a farm near Kellogg for 20 years, then near New Sharon for eight years. In 1946 she returned to Grinnell, where she was employed as a registered nurse at St. Francis and Community hospitals. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Isabella Brande Guild, and the Brande Bible Class. She was also a member of Beulah Chaper No.47 of the Order of Eastern Star and the O.B.C. Club, both of Grinnell.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vinall were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Wayne Shireman, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner. Casket bearers were Carl Vinall, Steve Smith, Richard Pilgrim, James Pilgrim, Donald Holcomb, and Ben Holcomb. Flower bearers were Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Doud and Mrs. John James.

Interment was in Our Silent City cemetery at Kellogg. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Grinnell General Hospital.
