Mrs. Thompson rites Saturday

The funeral service for Opal Thompson, 66, was held at Watts Funeral Home on March 3. She died at her home north of Montezuma on Feb 29. The Rev. Warren James, pastor of the Baptist church in What Cheer officiated and burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

Casket bearers were Gary Thompson, Delmar Thompson, Paul Pargeon, Ray Pargeon, Bill Schultz and Rodney Wiley. Kathleen Ramsey was organist and Betty Snook sang “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder.”

She was the daughter of Roy and Mildred Greenlee Sanders and was born Oct. 2, 1917 near Deep River. On Aug. 8, 1940, she married Lester Thompson, at Newton. They lived on their present farm since the spring of 1941. She was a member of Friendly Neighbor Club for almost 43 years and also belonged to the Thursday Club. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Besides her husband she is survived by her family: Gerri and Don Malcolm of Pella and their children, Beth Uhl, Randy and Tami Sikkema, Diane McCombs and Barb Malcolm; Mary and Junior Simpson of Hartwick and their children, Kim, Matt and Corey Simpson; Esther and Chuck Van Zante of Pella and their children, Holly and Joel Van Zante; Raymond and Connie Thompson and their children, Tina, Sara, Tami and Rod.

She is also survived by her sisters, Glema Wiley of Oskaloosa, Pauline Pargeon of Montezuma and Gail Sanders of Oskaloosa; and a brother, Wayne Sanders of Gilman.
